Biography
William E. McCarthy (Willie or Will) is an attorney and shareholder with Worden Thane P.C. in Missoula who specializes in estate planning, trusts, probate, real estate, agriculture, taxation, entity selection and operation, NCAA and high school sports law, and business transactions. He is a graduate of Montana Tech, The University of Montana, and The University of Montana School of Law. He has received numerous professional awards for his work, including being selected by his peers as a Mountain States Super Lawyer® and twice as the Montana Lawyer of the Year by Best Lawyers®.
He is a 4th generation and deeply rooted Montanan who represents clients throughout the Treasure State on a daily basis. His great-grandparents immigrated from County Cork, Ireland, to the copper mines of Butte, and he is eternally grateful to them for making him an American, especially a Montanan. He was born, raised, and received his highest levels of education on the hill in Butte. He was named in honor of Irish patriots and is aware of the disappointment he has caused his family by not yet forming an Irish Revolutionary group poorly disguised as an Irish book club. He is also the current sole owner of both the Anaconda Company and the Montana Power Company, mainly so no one can use those names ever again against the interests of everyday Montanans.
He is active in many community activities around Western Montana, including being the Past President of the Western Montana Bar Association, Past President of Camp Mak-A-Dream, Past President of Mount Sentinel Little League, a member of Providence Montana Health Foundation, and an active member and volunteer of numerous other Community groups in Western Montana.
His wife Gina grew up in the farm and ranch community of Valier and is now a pharmacist at St Patrick Hospital. They are the proud parents of two young men, Connor who is a law student at The University of Montana, and Colin who is a civil and mechanical engineering student at Montana Tech. Their family dog Bob is chronically, and happily, unemployed.
Will spent many years coaching youth baseball and football in Missoula, including coaching both of his sons, in different years, to the Montana State Championship and the Little League World Series Regionals where they together represented Montana. He is exceptionally proud of his former players who still regularly lead the honor rolls and football headlines for The University of Montana Grizzlies and the Montana State Bobcats.
